Macéo (15 rue des Petits-Champs, Paris) (Metro: Pyramides, Palais-Royale Musee du Louvre) – this restaurant, close to the Palais Royal gardens, was launched by a South African chef to meet the growing demand for vegetarian-friendly diners. Dishes served here include mesclun salad, fresh peaches, crunchy green beans with pesto; risotto with morel mushrooms and white asparagus; and Breton sardines with clementine compote, or quinoa galette with basil and curry oil – to go alongside French staples like escargots, magret de canard, etc. For carnivores, there are dishes such as roasted rack of lamb with thyme, olives Taggiasche & fava beans polenta; and Challans duck filet roasted with honey.
